We are looking for a senior Data Engineer to join the Artsy team. You will help develop the analytics and machine learning data pipelines that support Artsy’s business operations and product features. This can involve challenges in data warehousing, orchestration, and infrastructure. Data is core to Artsy’s marketplace, and this role will be responsible for shaping the platform, practices, and workflows driving both product and business insights.
Data Platform is a workstream within Artsy's Platform engineering team that enables other product teams to develop data-driven products. The team manages all our ELT pipelines, ensuring acceptable reliability and data quality standards are met. You will report to the Engineer Manager, who leads the Core Platform team.
Our data platform relies on AWS for cloud infrastructure, including Redshift for warehousing, Airflow for orchestration on Kubernetes; DBT for data modeling; some use of Spark for data processing; and Python as the core language. We integrate with services like Segment and Looker and continuously evaluate new patterns, tools, and technologies.
The Core Engineering Platform team is technically diverse, with team members working on infrastructure, security, and development tooling. We release continuously and test often with a focus on reliability, developer experience, and high-quality engineering enablement.
What You’ll Do at Artsy:
You’ll architect systems for scale, with a focus on data quality and platform reliability.
You'll work cross-functionally with data analysts, platform engineers, and product engineers.
You'll influence the direction of our data platform roadmap, including our analytics pipelines and personalization features.
You'll support the operations of data platform systems, including observability and requests to our team.
You’ll work with the data infrastructure to maintain and improve the data availability for the whole company.
You’ll help structure our data, so it’s an invaluable asset in our dynamic business environment.
This role is a fit for you if:
You enjoy evolving infrastructure as part of a team, pushing the boundaries of Artsy's platform.
Have experience working in a platform role, providing both knowledge and tooling to your non-platform engineer colleagues.
You are currently authorized to live and work in Berlin or London
[Optional] It’s a plus if you/it’s even better if you…
If you have experience standardizing and scaling Machine Learning operations
If you have experience with data security
This role is unlikely to be a good match if you….
Don't like interacting outside the data platform team.
Don't like to look for opportunities to optimize data platform systems.
Think that the data platform scope is limited to data pipelines
What success looks like in your first 3-6 months:
Full grasp of the data platform systems
Can contribute effectively to the data platform roadmap
Work together with other teams, like pairing with the data analysts
We know no one is a perfect match on paper, so if you’re passionate about this role, please apply! We’re excited to learn how your skills, experiences, and insights could make a difference.
How we will evaluate your Skills:
Our standard interview process looks like:
Talent Acquisition Interview
