About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Infrastructure Contractor to partner with our founder and CEO on an ongoing basis. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical role in shaping and maintaining the technical foundation of a fast-paced, innovative startup. You'll be responsible for a wide range of projects, from optimizing our existing network to designing and deploying a new on-prem compute cluster. Responsibilities

This role will involve a dynamic and evolving set of responsibilities. Some initial projects and ongoing tasks include:

On-Prem Compute Cluster Evaluation, Procurement, and Deployment:

• Research and recommend hardware solutions for a new on-prem compute cluster (e.g., a server with an NVMe backplane).

• Oversee the purchase, installation, and configuration of the selected hardware in a rack environment.

• Evaluate and decide between on-prem versus colocation for servers.

• Ongoing maintenance and optimization of the compute cluster.

Network Infrastructure Expansion and Optimization:

• Expand our physical network footprint, including installing new security and access controls.

• Replace and upgrade existing PoE network devices (cameras, security controls, etc.).

• Troubleshoot and resolve network issues, such as replacing degraded network cabling.

• Optimize our existing network configuration for performance and security.

• Work with our networking equipment, including a high speed synchronous fiber connection.

Ongoing IT Support:

• Provide general IT support and troubleshooting for our small but growing team.

• Proactively identify and address IT needs as they arise.

• Fix things when they inevitably fail.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining complex IT infrastructure.

• Expertise in networking, including routing, switching, firewalls, and security best practices.

• Strong understanding of server hardware and storage solutions, particularly servers with NVMe technology.

• Experience with enterprise-grade networking equipment.

• Experience with both on-prem and cloud environments (experience with a major cloud provider is preferred).

• Familiarity with physical security and access control systems.

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues independently.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Passion for technology and a desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

Bonus Points

• Experience with web crawling and related technologies.

• Familiarity with blockchain technology and decentralized applications.

• Experience with high-IO workloads.
