We’re looking to add a few members to our team of scientists and engineers, who obsess over creating the most powerful AI models for antibody discovery, and turning them into products that can transform how medicines are made.
About the role
As Chai’s first Product Designer, you will turn cutting-edge AI science into intuitive tools that scientists love. You’ll own the end-to-end design process, user research, wire-frames, high-fidelity mock-ups, and design-system stewardship, for our web apps and dashboards that let biologists explore model results, run jobs, and manage data. You’ll guide the product to optimize clarity of workflows, consistency of visual language, and user delight in a domain that is often cluttered and technical.
At Chai, we’re entering a pivotal stage. After years of foundational R&D, our models are moving beyond protein structure prediction and into real-world therapeutic engineering. We're now tasking our AI models on a broad spectrum of drug development challenges, at an exciting scale of wet-lab validation.
This is not a typical role — it’s a chance to push the boundaries of drug discovery by building some of the most advanced AI drug design models ever built.
About you
We’re looking for a mission-driven product designer who wants to define the gold standard for AI-powered drug-discovery products. You should have:
Design depth:
4+ years designing web or data-heavy SaaS products; a portfolio that shows end-to-end ownership of complex workflows
Comfortable moving from low-fi sketches to polished Figma files and interactive prototypes
Able to learn enough about molecular biology and AI/ML concepts to model user mental maps accurately
Skilled at planning and running user-research sessions, interviews, usability tests, and rapid feedback loops with scientists or enterprise users
Translate insights into clear information architecture, task flows, and interaction patterns
Communication & collaboration
Can articulate design decisions to cross-functional audiences (engineers, product managers, ML researchers, wet-lab scientists)
Fosters a culture of design thinking, documenting guidelines and evangelizing best practices
Mindset:
Bias for simplicity and minimalism in highly technical domains; you enjoy turning complex topics into elegant UIs
Comfortable iterating quickly in a startup where requirements, and underlying science, evolve fast
Clear communicator who can simplify complex science for external partners and internal stakeholders
Nice-to-have experience:
Designing for scientific or data-visualization products (bioinformatics tools, lab automation, analytics dashboards)
Basic front-end skills (HTML/CSS/React) that help you communicate with engineers and prototype interactions
