Position: Senior Accountant

Firm: Abacus!

Offices in: Springfield, Branson and Lee’s Summit MO, Fayetteville and Harrison AR

Role: Full Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Job Summary: The Senior Accountant position is accountable for tax, audit or accounting functions of various size and complexity of engagements; with increased client contact, more complex technical challenges, and supervisory responsibilities for the work of lower-level professional staff. This role involves overseeing complex accounting tasks, conducting financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting. Candidates must have an active CPA license or be CPA eligible with plans to take the exam.

  • Minimum of 3 years public accounting or with a larger corporation

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Well-organized with good time management and multi-tasking skills

  • Works well in a team environment and ability to maintain positive relationships with work teams and customers/clients

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Preferred experience using Microsoft Office applications, QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, UltraTax and Advance Flow

  • Ability to work and think independently

  • Must be able to develop working knowledge of in-house software packages.

  • Pass a CJIS background check

Essential Functions:

Financial Reporting: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and other regulatory requirements. Assist in the preparation of consolidated financial statements.

Accounting Services: Oversee accounting services including bookkeeping and month end close. Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and other accounting transactions.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of client annual budgets and financial forecasts. Analyze variances between actual and budgeted results, providing explanations and recommendations for corrective actions. Support department managers with financial planning and cost control.

Tax Return Preparation and Compliance: Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts. Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.

Audit Support: Coordinate and support external and internal audit processes. Prepare audit schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and ensure timely completion of audits. Implement audit recommendations to improve internal controls.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement within the accounting function. Lead or participate in initiatives to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency. Implement best practices in financial reporting and internal controls.

Team Leadership: Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff. Review the work of other accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Assist in training and development of the accounting team.

offers a competitive base salary rate between $65K – $90K per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
