Accounting Intern

Objective:

To support the accounting team in delivering accurate and timely tax, bookkeeping, and financial support services while gaining hands-on experience in a professional accounting environment.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist with the preparation of individual income tax returns (Form 1040) under supervision.

2. Perform basic accounting and bookkeeping tasks across various departments.

3. Support initial stages of tax and financial document preparation.

4. Participate in daily operational tasks, including front desk and client interaction responsibilities.

5. Develop skills in using accounting software and internal systems.

6. Ensure assigned work is completed accurately and on time.

7. Follow instructions with attention to detail, clarity, and neatness.

8. Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.

9. Demonstrate enthusiasm for advanced or technical assignments.

10. Collaborate with internal teams and maintain professional relationships with clients and staff.

Competencies:

1. Understanding basic accounting principles and internal control systems.

2. Developing knowledge of income tax concepts and return preparation.

3. Ability to apply accounting theory to practical scenarios.

4. Strong computer literacy, including use of accounting software.

5. Effective time management and the ability to work independently and in a team setting.

6. Professional demeanor, integrity, and a strong desire to learn.

7. Recognition of client service opportunities and solutions.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervision responsibilities. The intern will report directly to their assigned supervisor or department manager.

Position Expectations & Work Environment

This is a part-time, temporary internship position ranging from 20 to 40 hours per week, as determined in agreement with the supervising accountant. Interns work during standard office hours with flexibility based on academic schedules.

Location & Travel

This position is based in either Springfield, MO or Fayetteville, AR. It is primarily on-site, with limited travel required, if any.

Required Education & Experience

Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Accounting or a related field.
