Position: Senior Accounting Specialist

Offices in: Lee’s Summit, MO

Role: Full Time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Compensation: $25/hr

Objective:

The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of accounting functions with a strong emphasis on day-to-day financial recordkeeping. This position ensures that financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely, supports month-end and year-end close processes, and helps maintain the integrity of the general ledger. The role requires a high degree of accuracy, organization, and discretion, as well as a solid understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.

Essential Functions:

1. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.

2. Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.

3. Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports, ensuring proper coding and approvals.

4. Generate customer invoices and follow up on outstanding balances.

5. Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts on a regular basis.

6. Assist with the preparation of financial reports, supporting schedules, and documentation for internal and external use.

7. Support internal audits and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.

8. Monitor and maintain records for fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and other recurring entries.

9. Collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure the accuracy of financial data.

10. Provide backup support for payroll or other accounting staff as needed.

11. Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for financial records.

Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of standard accounting practices.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems).

  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • Experience in a professional services, CPA, or multi-entity environment.

  • Familiarity with payroll processing, sales tax reporting, or 1099 preparation.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervision responsibilities. He or she will have the Associate Coordinator as a supervisor.

Position Expectations & Work Environment

This is a full-time hourly non-exempt position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works normal office hours (with guilt-free flexibility). Some weeks over 40 hours will be required.

Location & Travel

Based in Lee’s Summit, MO, but also serve employees in all Abacus! physical locations and those working remotely.

Required Education & Experience

· Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).

· Minimum of 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
