Software Engineer III (Backend, Java)

As a Software Engineer III (Backend, Java), you'll join the iCasino Platform team within FBG, working on a highly scalable, fault-tolerant system that powers casino gaming experiences. Your responsibilities will include designing and implementing software, participating in technical and design discussions, and owning the delivery of features for game management, bet placement, jackpots, and integrations with third-party providers. You’ll also contribute to the rollout of our platform into new and emerging markets, helping adapt and scale our systems for international expansion (e.g., Canada).
Beyond coding, you'll collaborate with engineers across the team, promote engineering best practices, and partner with internal teams to ensure seamless interactions between our casino platform and other services within the Fanatics ecosystem.
Responsibilities
- As a microservices developer, you are required to build software systems that have well-defined interfaces. The selected candidate will write modular and reusable code and deliver high-quality results for enterprise projects.
- Develop, test, and deploy high-quality software into production
- Own the delivery of small to mid-sized features and components from design through implementation
- Works through project and task roadblocks, collaborating with teammates and escalating when needed
- Contribute to and help drive technical and design discussions within the team, building deeper expertise in design approaches and best practices
- Make implementation trade-off decisions and contribute to solution design
- Debug and troubleshoot issues across environments, including production, and drive root cause analysis
- Participate in the on-call rotation to support production systems and resolve issues
- Take ownership of problems, propose solutions, and ensure resolution or proper handoff
- Participate in code reviews, providing and incorporating feedback to improve code quality and maintainability
- Contribute to team planning, estimation, and prioritization discussions
- Support software quality, customer experience, and maintainability by contributing to automated testing and operational excellence efforts
- Work closely with product teams and internal stakeholders to inform technology decisions and improve our products
- Contribute to the release and adaptation of products for new and emerging markets, ensuring systems meet regional requirements and scale effectively
- Mentor and support engineers earlier in their careers, and participate in the interview process
- Must be open to occasional travel to Fanatics Betting & Gaming offices and other locations for conferences, events, meetings, and team-building activities
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of industry experience
- 2+ years of experience with Java/Spring Boot or similar technologies
- Experience building scalable and fault-tolerant systems
- Experience developing microservices using Java, Spring, or similar technologies
- Ability to debug and troubleshoot issues across environments, including production
- Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms and their practical application
- Ability to make sound implementation trade-off decisions
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences
- Familiarity with Agile software development and Scrum methodology
- Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial, high-growth environment where priorities evolve and decisions are made quickly
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AWS or other cloud computing platforms
- Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
Salary Range: $121,600 – $181,250 USD per year
The base salary for this role is based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience and may vary depending on the successful candidate’s geographic location.
