About the Role:
As Commercial Counsel, you will have the opportunity to help build and support Notion’s rapidly emerging Enterprise customer motions. In this role you will be expected to serve as a deal expert helping to not only negotiate complex AI SaaS agreements with key customers, but also act as advisor and coach to our account teams and other cross functional partners. If you enjoy using your deep industry experience and technology transaction expertise to support revenue generating functions, this role is for you.
What You'll Achieve:
Have broad responsibility for providing practical day-to-day commercial legal support in AMER region for the sales, marketing, and customer success teams with a focus on supporting the Enterprise segment
Collaborate with Product Legal team on product and operational items that impact customer agreements and go-to-market initiatives
Negotiate and independently identify creative legal solutions for in-bound commercial transactions, including customer subscription agreements and data processing agreements
Identify and independently pursue process improvements for buy-side supporting motions
Develop and revise contract templates and playbooks as necessary, based on changes in our product offerings, organization, and law
Skills You'll Need to Bring:
Admitted to the California State Bar, New York State Bar, or Registered In-House Counsel and in good standing
10+ years of combined experience practicing as a commercial attorney within a law firm or software technology company
2+ years in-house experience at a SaaS and/or AI technology company
Privacy and artificial intelligence subject matter expertise, including privacy regulations (GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, CCPA, etc.) and AI regulations (EU AI Act) with the ability to incorporate evolving requirements into the customer facing agreements
Experience driving commercial transactions, SaaS, and enterprise B2B transactions
Strong negotiation skills, including ability to explain nuanced legal concepts to internal and external parties and tailor approach to the audience
Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative and pragmatic ways to facilitate communication at all levels of the organization
Ability to directly interact and build meaningful relationships and trust with internal and external clients and leaders
Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence solutions in a work setting
Resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to make recommendations and decisions with imperfect facts
Independent and strategic thought combined with excellent team player qualities and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities
Nice to Haves:
Certified Information Privacy Professional or equivalent
Prior experience with a fast growing technology company
Experience supporting channel and reseller partnerships
Experience supporting customers in the financial services industry
Familiarity using Notion

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $280,000-340,000 per year.
