About the team

Our finance team is responsible for shaping our understanding of how Stripe is performing as a business, as well as what our best opportunities are for continued growth. We’re looking for an experienced financial controller to join our International Accounting team. As the Controller in Brazil you will help us build our technical accounting and financial reporting processes, work with business partners, financial partners, external stakeholders and our world-class engineers. You will help us develop best in class accounting processes and help track our progress within a fast-paced environment that’s growing globally.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Lead Financial Close Processes: Manage the monthly close of US GAAP books and local books, including balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, flux analysis, and regulated reporting deliverables.
  • Statutory Audit Process: Oversee financial statement preparation, technical memos, audit support, and presentations to the board of directors.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain fluency with US GAAP and local accounting rules, crafting technical accounting memos as needed.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner effectively with Tax, Transfer Pricing, Treasury, Corporate Accounting, Regulated Reporting, and Legal teams on diverse projects.
  • Outsourcing Management: Carefully supervise finance outsourcing partners tasked with day-to-day bookkeeping, payroll management, accounts payable, and tax compliance.
  • Process Efficiency: Enhance existing processes through simplification and automation to drive efficiencies.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on changing regulations in Brazil related to payment institutions (acquirers), implementing processes and controls to ensure compliance.
  • Tax Review: Oversee the review of direct and indirect tax returns.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • Experience: 8+ years in accounting, preferably trained in audit (Big 4 preferred) with industry experience.
  • Systems Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of accounting systems (Oracle or equivalent).
  • Audit Knowledge: Experience with large audits (central and local teams).
  • Accounting Expertise: Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, COSIF, and IFRS.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional initiatives.
  • Communication Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication in English and Portuguese.
  • Adaptability: Flexible with changing requirements in a fast-paced, growing environment.
  • Certification: Certificado do Registro de Contabilidade and eligible for Brazil Central Bank registration.
  • Problem Solver: Strong passion for solving complex challenges.

Preferred qualifications

  • Background: Knowledge of the Brazil payments, fin-tech, or financial services industries.
  • Central Bank Reporting: Experience in accounting for entities with central bank reporting requirements.
  • Tech Experience: Accounting experience in a fast-growing tech environment.
  • Technical Skills: Hubble/SQL experience beneficial.
  • Spanish language proficiency a plus
