Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

As a platform company powering businesses all over the world, Stripe processes payments, runs marketplaces, detects fraud, helps entrepreneurs get started from anywhere in the world, builds world-class developer-friendly APIs, and more.

We are establishing a new team with the initial charter of building an innovative internal platform to unify how Stripe handles incoming reports from our financial partners. This will require developing and operating a robust, efficient system that streamlines the parsing, interpretation, and processing of critical financial data. This platform will be pivotal to the successful processing of hundreds of billions of dollars in card payments annually. Engineers on the team have the opportunity to power Stripe’s global payments network, design and implement a novel internal platform, and deliver best-in-class reliability and performance.

Our Vision

  • We want any file that Stripe receives from a bank or card network, no matter its size, format, or quirks, to be reliably transformed into clean trusted data that powers our payments systems.
  • We want early detection of malformed or missing files, with intuitive and ergonomic built-in tooling for investigating and fixing these issues.
  • We want the processing of these files to be fast and cost-effective, ensuring we have real time access.
  • We want developers to be able to set up a new file ingestion flow in hours, not weeks, while still ensuring the correctness, auditability, and security of these flows.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team to design, build, and operate a highly reliable service that ingests and processes key financial reporting that powers cards payments at Stripe
  • As the editor-in-chief of your team’s plans, define and drive the roadmap and priorities for your team
  • Establish close feedback loops with customer teams and collaborate closely with partner teams
  • Foster a high level of technical excellence on the team
  • Recruit great engineers, in collaboration with Stripe’s recruiting team
  • Develop engineers on the team, helping them advance in their careers
  • Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Stripe’s engineering management team

You may be a fit for this role if you

  • Thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility
  • Enjoy acting as both product owner and engineering leader: you’re comfortable talking with users, distilling fuzzy needs into a roadmap, and then guiding engineers to deliver with quality
  • Communicate clearly with audiences ranging from staff engineers to non-technical partners
  • Have successfully shipped and operated critical infrastructure, where correctness, performance, and scalability are key
  • Are curious: you enjoy learning and diving into the nuts-and-bolts of how things work – in this role, you’ll learn a ton about global money movement rails, card payments, finance and accounting, and more
  • Lead with humility, bringing a growth mindset to the team

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience with a minimum of 10+ years of experience with software development
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role and overseeing strategic projects, including 3+ years of people management experience
  • Built diverse teams to tackle challenging technical problems
  • Thrived in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
