About Unify

Unify was founded January 17th, 2023 by Austin Hughes and Connor Heggie. Prior to Unify, Austin led Ramp’s growth product team focused on new customer acquisition, and Connor was a machine learning research engineer at Scale AI. The rest of our team comes from companies like Airbnb, Spotify, Bridgewater and Retool.

Our mission is to build the first system-of-action for go-to-market teams, starting with an end to end platform powering warm outbound. Today, outbound sales is dominated by cold, mass outreach that floods people's inboxes and converts to deals at a tiny rate. We’re building a platform to power warm outbound, allowing go-to-market teams to get in touch with the right people at the exact time they’re looking for a solution.

We've grown revenue 39x year-over-year, and are already serving customers like Guru, Justworks, Together.AI, Flock Safety, Hightouch and more. We’re a high energy, high intensity team and we’ve raised $19M from Thrive, Emergence, OpenAI and others. Come join us in changing how go-to-market works.

About the Role

As our first Data Engineer, you'll architect the foundation of how we collect, process, and leverage data at Unify. This is a rare opportunity to design our data strategy from the ground up and build the systems that will power data-driven decision making across the entire organization.

You'll work directly with our CTO and co-founder, partnering closely with product, engineering, and business teams to create a data platform that scales with our ambitions. You'll own our entire data infrastructure, pipelines, analytics stack, and data governance strategy to establish the frameworks that transform raw data into actionable insights.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone excited to build not just data systems, but a culture of data-driven excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Architect and own our entire data infrastructure, from ingestion to visualization, ensuring it scales with our rapid growth.

  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines, orchestrating complex workflows across our systems.

  • Build and maintain our data warehouse in ClickHouse, optimizing for both real-time analytics and historical analysis.

  • Develop robust data models and transformations, creating a semantic layer that powers consistent insights.

  • Create dashboards and analytics tools that enable self-service data exploration across the organization.

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries against PostgreSQL and ClickHouse to support product features and business intelligence.

  • Define and champion best practices in data engineering, including data quality, governance, and documentation standards.

  • Partner with engineering teams to instrument applications and ensure high-quality data capture at the source.

  • Be the go-to expert for all things data at Unify from architecture decisions to query optimization to dashboard design.

Who You Are

  • You have 5+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3+ years focused on data engineering, analytics engineering, or data infrastructure.

  • You're comfortable across the entire data stack from building ETL pipelines to crafting executive dashboards.

  • You have hands-on experience with modern data orchestration tools (ideally Dagster or similar) and data transformation frameworks like DBT.

  • You're proficient in SQL and can write complex, performant queries against both transactional and analytical databases.

  • You have experience with columnar databases and understand their trade-offs.

  • You've built dashboards and reporting tools that actually get used, with a keen eye for what metrics matter.

  • You thrive in ambiguity and excel at building foundational systems that scale both technically and organizationally.

Tech We Use

Our data stack today includes PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Dagster, DBT, and AWS. Experience with these specific tools is a plus, but we value your ability to learn and make thoughtful technology decisions above all else.

About This Role

This a salaried position with a target range of $180,000 - $225,000 (depending on experience), equity package and comprehensive benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) options). This role is onsite in San Francisco or New York City, enabling fast feedback loops, deep collaboration, and stronger relationships. You'll be at the center of our data strategy, helping unlock insights that drive Unify's growth and success.
